John Sparks

John was born in Fresno, California. He currently resides in San Diego, California where his studio overlooks Mission Valley.
John attended California State University at Fresno where he studied under Terry Allen (Stuart Collection at UCSD), Charles Gaines, world-renowned conceptual artist (Whitney Museum of American Art), and master sculptor Allen Bertoldi (Nassau County Museum of Art, NY, permanent collection).
As an independent artist, John has worked in a wide variety of media including painting, sculpture, drawing, digital media, lighting, and furniture. Since he began his professional career John has produced an extensive body of work and as a commercial artist has designed and sculpted figurines for Living Stone, Healthy Planet Products, and Figi Graphics. Many of his works are mass-produced and distributed worldwide. His fine art pieces are also held in numerous private collections.
John is the Chairman of the Shelter Island Art Association and is presently devoting his time to producing oil paintings done in the tradition of realism.
